In October 1981, a national "Day of Unity" began to unite advocates working to end domestic violence. The Day of Unity grew into a national movement that is now celebrated throughout October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM).
The Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2025 theme was
"With Survivors, Always."
For DVAM 2026, we're asked to build on that momentum, with a
focus on action. This month, we invite you to join us as we move from awareness to action. Across the US, violence is being minimized, drastic cuts to services families rely on, and increased obstacles have limited safety for survivors and their children.
Survivors deserve action.
